Based on the strict French hotel classification, 4 stars is related to size of the room. It must have a separate toilet and bathroom, and generally the room is over 200 square feet (most 3 stars are just 150 square feet and sometimes less). Many business hotels outside the center can claim 4 stars and do match this classification. But would you enjoy bad furniture from the 1980s, brown carpet and institutional-looking design? Certainly not. Due to the small size of buildings in Paris’s historic center, there are very few 4-star hotels because the rooms are just too small to get the standard classification. BUT, some upscale 3-star places easily match the international classification for 4 stars. We chose to list such establishments in the 4-star category. They are exceptional for their décor, their service and their ambiance. When entering any of them, you may notice just 3 stars on the front door.
