Following the strict French classification for hotels, having 4 stars is related to size of the room, having a separated toilet and separated bathroom and generally a room of over 200 square feet (most 3 stars are just 150 square feet and sometimes less). Many business hotels outside the center can pretend to have 4 stars and do match this classification. But would you fancy furniture from the 1980’s, brown carpet and institutional looking design? Certainly not. Due to the small size of buildings in Paris’ historic center, there are very few 4 star hotels because the rooms are just too small to get the standard classification. BUT, some upscale 3 star places easily match the international classification for 4 stars. We chose to list such establishments in the 4 star category. They are exceptional for their décor, their service and their ambiance. When entering any of them you may notice just 3 stars on the front door, rest assured they would deserve 4 if they met the strict state controls on room sizes.
