Talents Made in Le Marais : Richard Nahem

Today we would like to introduce the work of Richard Nahem, a New Yorker who moved to Paris in 2005 and fell in love with Le Marais. In 2006 he started the blog Eye Prefer, writing and photographing insider secrets of Paris, focusing on art, culture, food, history, and shopping. Based on the success of the blog, in 2007 he created innovative walking tours of Paris - Eye Prefer Paris Tours, showing clients the unknown Paris they usually never see on their own. Originally starting with tours of Le Marais, he has expanded his menu to include other neighborhood tours such as St. Germain and Montmartre, plus gourmet tours, chocolate tours, gay tours, cooking classes, and many other tours. As a former chef, Richard often focuses on small details that most people don't notice … what makes a dish beautifully presented and what architectural details makes a building standout. His eye for details and his ongoing thirst for all things Parisian made him a passionate photographer. Below he describes one of his favorite photo obsessions.

"I started to notice the doors of Paris in 2008 when I was walking around the Marais looking for things to write about on my blog. I started a monthly feature Door of the Month, where I post a beautiful door every month and their architectural details. I realized this was an important but accessible way for people to see some architectural details of Paris up front and close.

I think the doors tell a story about each building and sometimes I feature the history of the building to help further enhance the story. I've featured many types of doors from 16th century hotel particuliers to Art Deco wrought iron and glass doors. Door of the Month has become one of the most enduring and popular blog posts over the last eight years .I now have a huge fan club that shares my door obsession. I also recently started an Instagram account, Parisian_doors where I post daily door photos."
