Travel Through Time With The Orient Express

Bonjour from le Marais,

The Parismarais.com team braved the soggy elements on 30 April 2014 and ventured just outside the Marais to the Institut du Monde Arabe (IMA) on the south bank of the Seine river to throw its discerning eye on the astounding exhibit "Il était une fois l'Orient Express" (Once upon a time on the Orient Express), a collaborative effort of IMA and the SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer - "French National Railway Company") France's national state-owned railway company.

This informative as well as fascinating show was expertly curated by Claude Mollard, aided by Patrick Ropert, Director of Communications, and Maryanne Rapin, Project Manager. From April 4 to August 31, visit this mythical train and learn about its history. The brainchild of Georges Nagelmackers, the idea came from a journey the young Belgian banker's son made to the United States, visiting the several states by train.

Re-enacted in various wagons are some of the most well-known scenes from both film and legend, such as Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Orient Express and Ian Fleming's James Bond classic, "From Russia with Love".

The Orient Express train ran internationally from 1883, and continues to run today, albeit on a shorter route and only for special occasions, however the SNCF does have plans to relaunch this timelessly Rolling Palace on a more regular basis.

From the roof terrace of the Institut du Monde Arabe, don't miss the best free view over central Paris, Notre Dame and the Marais.

A Bientôt !
