FROM LE MARAIS TO VERSAILLES

Become the Sun King for a magical night at Versailles

Deeply rooted in the history of France and radiating its brilliance, the Château de Versailles has always been the privileged place where the arts, with all of their passions and complexities, have flourished and where the the most dazzling parties have been given.

Louis XIV was surrounded by a flock of talented artists and favored the emergence of new styles as well as trends. Even today, the Palace of Versailles encourages creativity in all forms, devoting some of its most emblematic and prestigious spaces, such as the Hall of Mirrors in particular, to contemporary artists of international significance such as Jeff Koons, Murakami or, this year, Vasconcelos.

This summer, from July 8 to 13, Versailles will host The Triumph of Handel, an international music festival dedicated to the baroque composer George Frederick Handel. Approximately thirty concerts are scheduled, providing an opportunity to discover the extent of his "palette". The festival will be organized into two sections, one presenting his accomplishments achieved between 1717 and 1729, and the other those created between 1733 and 1749, including in particular his operas and oratorios.

These pieces will be played by the greatest prevailing performers, such as Marc Minkowski, Jordi Savall, Cecilia Bartoli and Alan Curtis. A lavish fireworks display will be organized for the occasion of certain special receptions (notably the 5th and 6th of July), along the Grand Canal. A costume ball was held at the Versailles Orangery on June 29, where the most incredible and outrageous characters met for the duration of a summer night to chat and have fun to the sounds of more modern music. Profondément ancré dans l’Histoire de France et rayonnant de son éclat, le Château de Versailles a toujours été le lieu privilégié où les arts, dans toutes ses composantes, ont pu s’épanouir et où les les fêtes les plus éblouissantes furent données.

Louis XIV était entouré d’un aéropage d’artistes talentueux et favorisait l’émergence de  nouveaux styles et tendances. De nos jours encore, le Château de Versailles encourage la création sous toutes ses formes et consacre certains de ses espaces les plus emblématiques et prestigieux, tels que la Galerie des Glaces notamment, à des artistes contemporains à la stature internationale, comme Jeff Koons, Murakami ou cette année Vasconcelos.

Cet été, Versailles accueillera du 8 au 13 juillet le Triomphe de Haendel, un festival international de musique consacré au compositeur baroque George Frederick Haendel. Une trentaine de concerts sont programmé, donnant ainsi l’occasion de découvrir l’étendue de sa « palette ». Le festival sera structuré en deux sections,  l’une présentant ses réalisations composées entre 1717 et 1729, et celles créees entre 1733 et 1749, avec notamment ses opéras et oratorios.

Ces morceaux sont joués par les plus grands interprètes actuels, tels que Marc Minkowski, Jordi savall , Cecilia Bartoli et Alan Curtis. Un somptueux feu d’artifice sera organisé à l’occasion de quelques soirées exceptionnelles (notamment le 5 et 6 juillet prochain), le long du Grand Canal. Un bal masqué et costumé fut donné à l’Orangerie du Château le 29 juin, où les plus incroyables et extravagants personnages se sont donnés rendez-vous pour, le temps d’une nuit d’été, parader, converser et s’amuser au son d’une musique plus actuelle. Parismarais se devait évidemment d’être présent et de partager ce moment.
